She loves to travel, which inspires her domestic/psychological thriller plots. Characters often must venture to new places to unspool mysteries: A cruise to Mexico, a resort in Miami, a hidden cabin in forested hills.

Some of Kyla’s favorite authors and inspirations are Donna Tartt, Jane Harper, Catherine Ryan Howard and Karin Slaughter. (And when she was a child, every book at the library by Joan Lowery Nixon.)

Originally from Chicago, Kyla has worked as a breaking news reporter, at an animal hospice, and has traveled the world full-time as a “digital nomad.” She now lives in Melbourne, Australia with her partner and dog Pompeii.
