About Beetiful

Meet the girl behind the designs

Hello, my name is Stefanie!

Fun fact:  I’m named after the actress Stefanie Powers from the television show Hart to Hart. She spells her name the same way.

I books + I design =

Passion #1: Books

I’ve always been a HUGE bookworm. I love getting lost in a good story. I read any and all fiction genres. Unfortunately, I don’t read much non-fiction.

My passion for books started with teen horror books which I started reading in 4th or 5th grade. I would read books by R. L. Stine, Christopher Pike, Caroline B. Cooney, A. Bates, Sinclair Smith–the list can go on. My favorite author at that time was Richie Tankersley Cusick.

AP/Honors English got me into Victorian classics and I fell in love with Jane Austen. I have a aunt that used to give me bags full of books so it was through her where I was introduced to different genres of romance (historical, contemporary, romantic suspense). I think it was Harry Potter that got me into fantasy.

These days I do most of my “reading” through audiobooks because I can listen while I design. I listen to them at 2x the speed so that I can finish books quicker. I generally go through 20-30 books a month. My Goodreads goal for 2015 is to finish 250 books.

Passion #2: Design

My passion for design started with web design. I created my first website with Geocities (Tokyo/Temple/3350) during the summer after 8th grade (17 years ago at the time of writing this). I taught myself HTML and Photoshop. From there my passion grew.

I began creating websites for other people, including websites for my school district and websites for a few local bands. I freelanced while in college and I taught myself how to do print design, After graduating with a BS in Computer Science I eventually started a graphic design business that specialized in web design. I catered to small businesses and individuals.

These days I love to do all types of graphic design projects. I love the challenge of new projects. This year I started a DeviantArt account where you can few some of my photomanipulations.

Beetiful Begins

For years I’ve had the idea to combine my love for books and my love for design into one but I never attempted to pursue it. Being mainly a web designer, the idea for “Beetiful Webs” sprang up first. I really wanted to create websites for authors, because, let’s face it, some authors have atrocious websites. One day a close friend encouraged me to contact authors to see if they wanted a new website designed. After a long string of no’s I finally got a yes and that one yes lit a fire under me.

The idea for “Beetiful Books” sprang up after researching what other graphic design services authors needed. I decided to create premade book covers so that authors could see examples of my work. I discovered a new passion: book design!

In the summer of 2013, after I had a few premades under my belt, I launched Beetiful, Beetiful Webs, and Beetiful Book Covers.

Fun fact: I love chocolate just as much as I love books and design.

Beetiful Photomanipulations

Book design is largely photomanipulation. This year, as a new hobby, I hope to create photomanipulation artworks in my spare time and feature them on DeviantArt. Some of these photomanipulations will be turned into premade book covers. You can view my DeviantArt profile here: beetiful.deviantart.com
